How to Check Your Korean Hometax Refund in 1 Minute
If you filed or plan to file Korean comprehensive income tax for 2026, it is worth checking whether a refund is waiting under your name. The National Tax Service Hometax website and the mobile Sontax app both let you check refund status without a traditional certificate, as long as you can complete simple authentication such as Kakao or Naver verification.

1. Checking on the Hometax website
- Go to hometax.go.kr.
- Select login and authenticate with Kakao, Naver, a joint certificate, or another available method.
- Open the inquiry/issuance menu.
- Choose the detailed refund inquiry screen.
- Select the tax year and confirm the expected refund amount, refund date, and bank account.
The faster route is to use the refund inquiry or application shortcut on the Hometax main page. After login, it can take you directly to the refund-check screen.
2. Checking with the Sontax mobile app
Install the Sontax app from the app store, log in with simple authentication, open the inquiry tab, and select detailed refund inquiry. From there, you can check refunds by year and register or confirm the receiving account.
3. What to review on the refund screen
| Item | What it means |
|---|---|
| Expected refund amount | The amount scheduled to be returned. If it shows 0 won, the case may not be processed yet or you may not be eligible. |
| Expected refund date | Refunds are often paid within about 30 days after filing, but timing can vary. |
| Receiving account | Check whether the registered account is correct. If no account is registered, the payment method can be delayed. |
| Processing status | Status typically moves from refund decision to refund payment and then completed deposit. |
If the screen still shows 0 won
A 0-won result does not always mean there is nothing to receive. Your filing may still be under review, or the refund may appear in a separate unclaimed-refund menu. If one or two weeks have passed after filing and the amount still looks wrong, review the tax filing details again.
Quick checklist before you leave the page
- Confirm the tax year you selected.
- Check whether the refund account is yours and still active.
- Save the expected payment date or status screen for your own records.
- Use only the official Hometax or Sontax route, not random refund links received by message.
